For parents & teachers
MyMathFriend is a free practice site where children aged 6 to 13 can learn math one small step at a time, on their own. Like a good workbook page, each step holds one kind of activity and 8 to 10 problems.
How the course is organised
| Stage | Ages | Content | Units · steps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intro | 6 | Numbers to 10, adding and subtracting | 13 · 43 |
| Stage 1 | 6~7 | Numbers to 20, adding and subtracting | 30 · 117 |
| Stage 2 (provisional) | 8 | Carrying, borrowing and numbers to 100 | 7 · 22 |
| Stage 3 (provisional) | 9 | Two-digit sums and times tables | 9 · 34 |
| Stage 4 (provisional) | 10 | Multiplying, dividing and first fractions | 8 · 29 |
| Stage 5 (provisional) | 11 | Big numbers, fraction and decimal sums, angles | 8 · 31 |
| Stage 6 (provisional) | 12 | Factors, common denominators, multiplying fractions and decimals, area | 8 · 32 |
| Stage 7 (provisional) | 13 | Dividing fractions and decimals, ratio and percent, circles and volume | 9 · 33 |
That is 92 units and 341 steps in all. Intro and Stage 1 split each activity into its own small step; Stage 2 and up are provisional, based on the elementary curriculum, and will be split further.
Using it at home or in class
- Pick an age under “Learn” to see the suggested stage. Intro (age 6) covers numbers to 10; Stage 1 (ages 6–7) covers numbers to 20.
- One or two steps a day is plenty: a step takes 2–3 minutes. The “Daily challenge” is a 10-problem review that changes every day.
- A wrong answer immediately shows the correct one with a one-line explanation. Ask your child to read it aloud.
- Below three stars (90%), use “Try again” on the same step. Problems are generated fresh each time.
- A tablet works best: choice buttons and the number pad are finger-sized. Add the site to the home screen to open it like an app.
- In a classroom, everyone can do the same “Daily challenge” on the same day (it is the same set for everyone) and compare results.
Records and privacy
Stars, XP and badges are stored only in this browser. We do not ask for or send any personal data such as a child’s name or email. To move progress to another device, copy the growth code from “My growth” and paste it there. Accounts (several child profiles, automatic sync) are planned as parent accounts, and practising will stay free.
How problems are made
Every problem is generated on the spot within the range set for its step (for example, teen plus a digit without carrying). Three correct answers in a row shift to slightly bigger numbers inside the same range; two wrong in a row shift to smaller ones. Wrong choices are built from typical mistakes (swapped digits, a forgotten carry) so they are meaningful.
